Zakopane is the largest urban center in the vicinity of the Tatra Mountains, a major center for winter sports, has long been informally called the Polish winter capital. The administrative boundaries of the city are also a significant part of the Tatra National Park. The number of tourists visiting the entire Tatras is estimated at about 2-3 million per year.
